Ley No. 586 - LEY DE RESERVA FORESTAL

MILITARY GOVERNMENT OF SANTO DOMINGO. * Executive Order No. 586. FOREST RESERVE AREA LAW. By virtue of the powers vested in the Military Government of Santo Domingo, the following Executive Order is dictate4 and promulgated : WHEREAS, the present forests of the country are extensive and valuable, their economic utilization and protection necessary for the future werfare and gcad of thz country and; WHEREAS, the conuco system of land clearing combined with the tendency of the people to deforest all land is devastating rapidly all of this forest area and; WHEREAS, unrestricted burning over the grassy under- growth of the forest areas is certain permanently to destroy the forage, ground cover and eventually t h e forests themselves and ; WHEREAS, the watersheds require forest protection t o assist in insuring a steady and constant stream flow and In I preventing Hoods and droughts ; THEREFORE, i t is resolved, that all mountainous lands, the adjoining foothills and the subsidiary slopes, described as follows, be and are hereby designated FOREST RESERVATION AREAS in accordance with the provisions of Article 3,Executive Order 365, known as the “Dominican Forest Law”; 1 . The range of mountains of the Province of Samana, in the peninsula of t h e same name. 2 . The range of mountains including the mountainous lands, which extend from the northern ptart of the province of PaciB cador westward until reaching the northern parts of the provin- ces of Espaillat and Santiaga, to the North of f i e Northern Yaque River, the central part of t h e province of Puerto Plata and part of the province of Monte Cristy, t o the North of the Northerh Yaque River. 3 . The central range of mountains, described as that rnoun- tainous land which is. the principal topographic feature of the Dominican Republic, extending from the seacoast in the province 0 of Seybo westward to t h e R&public of Haiti, located in the north central part of the province of Seybo, the province of Samana  -741- * south of the Bay of Saamana.the iiorthern, western and south- western parts of the province of Santo Dorningo, the southern part of the province of La Vega, the eastern, riortheastern and northern part of the province of Azua, the southern p a r t of the province of Santiago and the southern pa-+ of the province of Monte Cristy. 4. The southern ranges of mountains, described as t h e mountainous lands which a r e located in t h e province of Barahona and the southwestern part of the provitice of Azua.
